HOCKANUM RIVER COMMISSION
REGULAR MEETING MAY 20, 2009
- Call to Order – Paula called the regular meeting of the Hockanum River Commission to order at 6:03 pm on May 20, 2009 at the East Hartford Community Cultural Center, Room 112.
A. Roll Call - PRESENT: Paula Saaf, Bruce Jokubaitis, Ken Sek, Scott Hollister, David Cannell, Anthony Hollister, Peter Klock.
ABSENT: James Reik, Kevin Riley
- Approval of Minutes from February 18, 2009 – Paula asked the commission to go over the minutes from the February 18, 2009 meeting. Bruce made a motion to approve the minutes, seconded by Anthony Hollister. It was unanimously voted to approve the minutes of the February 18, 2009 meeting.
- Opportunity for Residents to Speak– Jeff Feldman took race photos and will present a slide show of the race to the Commission immediately after the meeting adjourns.
- Old Business –
- River Race 2009 – The race on May 3, 2009 was a success. The weather was great and it was very well attended. They received good feedback from the participants. T-shirts were sold and there are extra T-shirts available for purchase. No financials on the race yet, Paula will get the information from Roger Moss. Paula asked Scott to convene a meeting to do a wrap up of the race.
- Division of Commission Responsibilities:
Volunteer Coordinator – Ken Sek – Ken reported that Pratt and Whitney had approx. 25 volunteers come over and help clean up Labor field. He passed the names of the volunteers to the Mayor, who is going to send out a thank you note to them. Clerk will follow up with the Mayor on this. CNG had cancelled their date for volunteering, but Ken will check with them to see if they would like to reschedule.
Race Coordinator – Scott Hollister convene a wrap up meeting for the race and will inform the Commission of the meeting date via email. Jeff Feldman took lots of photos of the race and put they on CD, some of which are also on the town website. Will use funds from the race to help Jeff purchase CDs to mass produce for others to view. One of the Commissioners also put an amateur video of the race on YouTube, to be viewed at www.youtube.com/ehhrcanoekayakrace.
Website – Paula will talk to Jim Hall about creating a new website to link with the town page. Also spoke of the possibility of linking the town website to the East Hartford Hockanum Linear Trail website. Paula will check into this.
B. Resignation – Kevin Riley send in his resignation to the Commission. Paula will send him a thank you letter for his service to the Commission. Paula will inquire with the Mayor about replacement. She would like to have Christine Durrer, an East Hartford resident take the spot on the Commission. Paula will find out from the Mayor the steps to have Christine appointed.
C. Open Discussion - The Commission had discussions on the budget and purchasing supplies that are needed such as a weed wacker and a battery for the gator. Paula will speak to Parks and Rec. Director to find out the steps to making the purchase orders because there is money allocated in the budget for this purpose. Scott Hollister made a motion to allocate $300 and purchase a weed wacker, seconded by Peter. Ken Sek made a motion to allocate $60 and purchase a battery for the gator, seconded by Scott. Both motions were voted on unanimously and Motions for the weed wacker and the batter for the gater carried.
- Adjournment – Dave Cannell made a motion to adjourn the meeting, seconded by Peter. Chair Paula Saaf adjourned the meeting at 6:58 p.m.
